Why we exist

The internet is overflowing with "relaxing music" — and with bold claims about what it can do. Some of those claims are backed by real research; many are marketing. We started this site to do something simple but surprisingly rare: explain what calming sound genuinely does, in plain language, honestly labelled — and then point you to the calmest, most trustworthy corners of the web to experience it.

What we do

Two things, mainly. First, we explain the science of how music and sound affect the body and mind — sleep, stress, focus, mood — drawing on real peer-reviewed studies and saying clearly when the evidence is strong, mixed, or merely traditional. Second, we curate: we sort through the noise to recommend genuinely good apps, sites, channels and playlists, so you spend less time searching and more time relaxing.

Our standards

Trust is the whole point of this site, so we hold ourselves to a clear, public standard. Every health-related claim is sorted into one of three honest tiers — Proven, Promising, or Traditional — and we'd rather tell you "the evidence here is mixed" than oversell. We cite real studies, we never fabricate sources, and we soften claims that the science doesn't support. You can read exactly how we evaluate evidence on our methodology page.

Independence

Our recommendations are editorial and independent. We're not paid to feature any app, site or channel — when something appears in our directory, it's because we think it's genuinely worth your time. The site is supported by advertising (see below), never by pay-for-placement in our recommendations.

How we're funded

This site is free to read and supported by advertising, including Google AdSense. Ads help us keep the lights on and the content free. They don't influence our editorial recommendations — our reviews and rankings are made independently of any advertiser. For the full picture, see our disclaimer and privacy policy.

A note on who we are

We keep the focus on the work rather than on personalities — we're a small, independent team of people who care about calm, good evidence, and good design. If you'd like to reach us — with feedback, a correction, or a suggestion for the directory — we'd genuinely love to hear from you on our contact page.
